Nurses for Freedom NZ (NFFNZ) was established in June 2022 to support Nurses, Midwives & Health Care Assistants terminated under the Covid-19 Public Health Response Act 2020. Despite governmental mandates ending September 2022, ongoing restrictions imposed by Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) lasted for a further nine months preventing hundred's of healthcare workers returning to work & supporting a failing health system. In June 2023 NFFNZ launched its professional arm, the Nurses Professional Association of New Zealand (NPANZ) which provides indemnity insurance & medico-legal support to healthcare practitioners including those navigating the Te Whatu Ora pre-employment risk assessment.
